On a cold, rainy November afternoon, a shivering stray found her way to the Little Elm Animal Shelter. Trembling from fear and cold, this thin, burr-covered dog looked up at us with her big brown eyes, seeming even larger due to her frail frame. That was Lily, and it was love at first sight.

Despite her initial fear, Lily’s gentle spirit shone through. She was on a stray hold, waiting for an owner who never came. When the hold ended, I Am Dog Rescue stepped in to pull her from the shelter. It was then that I offered to foster Lily, intending to help find her a loving home. Little did I know, Lily had already found it—with me.

Have you ever heard the term “foster fail”? Well, that’s exactly what happened with Lily. It took just a couple of days for her to begin trusting me, but once she did, she never left my side. I knew right then that Lily would become a permanent member of our family.

Now, nearly two years later, Lily has truly come into her own. Gone is the scared little stray who trembled at every touch. In her place is our confident “Texas Terrier,” a spirited dog who rules the roost with a playful yet gentle authority.

Lily has brought immense joy and love into our lives. Her transformation from a frightened stray to a beloved family member is a testament to the power of love, patience, and a forever home. We can’t imagine our lives without her.
