Fran is a senior dog with a heart full of love. Despite being abandoned in a vacant house with a litter of puppies, Fran still trusts and loves!  Fran spent about 4 months in the Little Elm shelter and was not doing well.  She would not interact with visitors and tended to shrink to the back of her kennel.  I found out about Fran through my work at the FLEAS pet pantry.  Since I had been dogless for about 2 years, I agreed to help Fran as a foster.   When fostering her, I could tell she needed stability and security.  She was a bit skittish and did not seem she had been out in the world much.  Walking was a huge problem.  But, Fran is smart and she wanted to please so progress was made!  I fostered Fran nearly a year.  Since she is a senior friend, her chances of adoption were low. Fran fit in so well with us, so she became a permanent part of our family.  

Frannie is sweet, friendly, and endlessly curious.  She likes to stalk frogs, birds, rabbits, lizards, and squirrels.   Fran’s favorite things are our grandson, bones, pup cups (Dutch Bros. are the best, Black Rock Coffee a close 2nd!), snacks, going to the lake and snapping at waves, swimming and walks.  Fran has “screen time”, watching squirrels and birds on YouTube.  She is cuddly, especially at night when she does not like to be alone.  Fran’s resilience and zest for life is truly inspiring. Fran wakes up every day with a joyful, grateful heart and a wagging tail.  Fran continues to work on being a good citizen toward other dogs and listening to directions during walks.  That, I believe will always be a work in progress.  

Since Fran was not spayed until she was 10 years, she is susceptible to mammary tumors.  Fran recently underwent surgery to remove one tumor and though the carcinoma was listed as a stage 2, the doctor is optimistic that the surgery might be curative.  Fran is just on a watch for further tumors.  All indications are that Fran is healthy and we hope to see her that way for a long time to come.
